This not a traditional love story. This is the story of the love I have for my brown Oxford shoes and how everything started.
I have to be honest, it wasn’t love at first sight. Let’s say that our relationship has been growing over the years…growing through sunny days, cloudy days, muddy days, days full of puddles to avoid…
But let me tell you the curious story of how we first met…
It was a rainy day 3 years ago in Berlin. I was on holiday with my family and we were trying to find some shelter. We saw a Clark’s shoes store and we went inside and started looking around. My brother was clearly bored but my mum, on the contrary, loved every single shoe and she was tugging on my arm and leading me all around the shop. My dad had been seated quietly in a corner when suddenly he approached to me and said, pointing out a pair of shoes on the shelves — “Silvia, I am going to to buy you those shoes”. I looked at the shoes he was gazing at and thought ‘nah it’s not my style. I don’t like them’. Yet I didn’t want to hurt my father’s feelings and he insisted (he was very stubborn man) – “Please Silvi, you must try them. I think you will look very elegant and smart in them…”. So I tried them. They felt super comfortable and so I acquiesced to my father’s wish and he bought them for me. And so began the a long and beautiful relationship that still remains today.
I can’t tell you with words how grateful I am for that day. These shoes have been with me for 3-years and are my favourite item in my wardrobe. In them I feel confident, smart, beautiful – just like my father told me I would on that day back when. With them I feel I can cope with anything, that I can walk through any situation in my life. Every time I put them on and lace them up I feel their power going through me, giving me the strength I need.
I’ve also received so many compliments wearing them. Everybody tells me how nice I look with them on, how perfectly they suit me. Oh my father, he was just so right…as always. These shoes were one of of the last things he bought for me and I supposed that makes them even more magical and special for me.
I just hope they will stay with for many more years, continuing to give me his power. I try to take care of them as best as I can; polish them from time to time, take them to the cobbler to repair their soles when necessary; replacing the laces when they break. They are such a part of me that it feels so natural to look after them.
I’ve never had such a beautiful or powerful pair of shoes. Thank you dad. ♥
Please share your stories of clothes that have meaning to you. I would love to read them 🙂
